NFL draft day

Well, it is that time of the year again. Time for my Lions to make another selection that will make low impact. There have been exceptions to the case, but they have been rare. So now what.

Also watching this morning on ESPN, they have been highlighting the higher standard of conduct that is going to be required by the NFL. No other career path (speaking of all of sports) puts such young individuals in the possession of so much money and media focus. I am think they will have some luck in curbing this behavior just based on what they have done in the past with their drug policy. They will still have incidents but hopefully these kids can really learn the lessons of responsibility at such a young age.

So how am I going to blog this draft. In the past I have just watched it and ranted about it later. This time, I will likely just leave comments on this post talking about surprises only. Otherwise, it is just kinda ridiculous.

Please, Lions... trade down...

Every draft I have watched, going into it the number 1 pick had already been signed. This is going to be such a long draft...

Ok.... JaMarcus Russell.... Not a terribly big surprise, but I did think the Raiders would go with the WR Calvin Johnson.

So what team is picking Calvin Johnson.... He is laughing and happy. Could it be a *4th* WR in 6 years?

Holy crap.

WTFBBQ.

Why are Cleveland fans booing? Joe Thomas is going to be a career LT. Sigh. This is the right choice guys.

Thought Washington was going to pull a Minnesota and let their draft clock run out.

I really wonder what Miami sees in Ginn or doesn't see in Brady Quinn?

I was gonna post in time to make a joke about the lions picking Calvin Johnson, and then the dumbfucks *actually do*. This shit writes itself.

The Millen age continues. I think I may actually detest that man. Now don't get me wrong. I think Calvin Johnson is one of those premier players, but really, offensive production wasn't much of a problem last year. A better run game would be nice but there was 4000+ yards in the air with the players they had.

I am a little surprised that the first trade occurred at the 15th pick. This is really turning out to be unusual (minus the fact that it has really been getting progressively longer, year after year).

Well the first round is nearly completed and there has really not been the type of shocker of last year. Definitely the Lions are a tad odd, but overall a lot of things that were expected.

The trading of some first round picks were very expensive, at least more expensive than I would have expected.

Either way, I cooked some ribs for dinner and those were good. Now I can sit and let the rest of the draft sort of flow and wonder if the Lions will continue to draft offense players that don't help the run game and don't help the pass defense...

The Lions took a MSU QB? Crikee man. Don't you think there might be some needs on the defense side of the ball?

Defense is for teams with winning records.

My cousin told me about going to a Wings game a couple months ago and the crowd was doing the "Let's Go Red Wings" cheer, except they were actually chanting "Fire Millen". Hillarious, Detroit is so pissed that its crossing sports boundaries.

BTW, It looks like I'm getting assigned to a different boat than I thought, so I may not be in SEA this summer :( boo ): But you could come visit me in Oahu!

OK, fine, maybe not. I'll catch up out there sometime soon, though, I also have to make a trip up to
BC.

:(

That's ok. We will get caught up before too much longer.

andy sez:

I think Millen has gone meta on us. He's terrible, and he finally knows it. I think he's now making fun of the Lions, Detroit, and the Fnord Family. Think of every pick as a fuck-you to the fans before (say in 2078) he's finally fired.

To be honest, if he was flipping the fans the bird, he could do it a little more obviously. Unless he still has to keep up appearances.
