Do you know any good science fiction?

goodscifi
Since I am avid Amazon.com purchaser, a couple of folks I know have created a "goodscifi" book club. If you know of a particular book that is good science fiction (NOT fantasy) feel free to use Amazon's tagging feature (on a product's detail page, press 'tt' (t twice) and it will allow you to tag the item). Basically my theory is that since the death of R.A.H. there has been a huge void in the positive humanity science fiction, feel free to prove me wrong.

Singularity Sky woah, especially the description of space warfare withour WOOOSHING ships, lasers and that other nonsense... grains of sand are deadly for a ship travelling at 50% light.

btw, I cheated a little. "Maps in a Mirror" contains the complete short fistion of Orson Scott Card, some fantasy mixed in there, but the sci-fi content is the reason to read it: Fat Farm, Eumenides..., Mortal Gods, Unaccompanied Sonatta, others.

Ok, I know this doesn't really fit your description, and I haven't read it yet...but this sounds interesting, and was just optioned for films by Peter Jackson. Author Naomi Novik, Temeraire series, first book "His Majesty's Dragon". I am waiting for my library request to come in.
